Snakes that Shed

This is a novella I am currently seeking representation for.

A year ago Bobby Fire walked out of Malinda’s life and away from the drugged-up lifestyle that almost destroyed him and into the religion of his youth. But his newfound commitment to God remains confusing and tenuous at best. And despite the fact that he was the one to walk away, if the incessant noise in his head is indication of God’s whisperings, there may be hope yet.
As Bobby relaxes on the couch after a long week at work, Malinda calls. Her car has broken down and she needs a ride. His heart races and he believes this is his big chance. All of his prayers of faith have paid off. This is what God has been preparing him for.
But when Bobby arrives on the scene Malinda is not alone. She’s with Mr. Coz, a prison-tattooed meth cooker from the Jungle. Bobby feels betrayed and can only think of boxing him into the dirt, and stealing Malinda away. But despite his better judgment he gives them both a ride, in hopes of winning Malinda back, and letting her choose him over Mr. Coz.
Mr. Coz quickly wears out his welcome. When Bobby pulls the car over to drag Mr. Coz out by the hair, Mr. Coz slits his throat and leaves him for dead. Malinda offers no objections as they drive off in Bobby’s car.
While Bobby waits to die, he is left to contemplate his life’s choices, wrestle with God, and face the reality of his own part in all of this. While on the verge of death, a young farmer sees him and comes to his rescue.
